“Mod For It - Shopping for everything mod in Silver Arcade” says the Leicester Mercury

Scoot(er) over to the city’s Silver Arcade where Mod For It is keeping the '60s style strong with parkas, polo shirts and dresses that would do Twiggy proud.

Gemma Peplow rocked up and revelled...

Calling all mods and modettes (PHK: Grrr! Mod Girls): have you seen Silver Arcade’s newest recruit? We say newest recruit, although you may remember Mod For It as Supernova Terrace, which opened in the city centre last year. But you know what we mean. It’s gone through those Stars in Their Eyes doors and come out as something bigger, better and louder.

While Supernova Terrace was all about football terrace-style casual-wear, Mod For It is – you’ve guessed it – bringing a bit of mod revival to the city.

It’s mainly menswear, with brands including Lambretta (of course), Gabicci, Merc, Warrior and Bewley & Ritch. You’ll also find local brand Delicious Junction, brought in for its desert boots, and a nod to the original store with paisley numbers from independent brand Supernova Scarves.

The style is everything mod, so think polo shirts, dogtooth trousers, parka jackets and even a Union Jack knit here and there.

For the girls, Mod For It has recruited Leicestershire brand Love Her Madly – a range of new, hand-made dresses and skirts inspired by the 1960s. Think little shifts, Peter Pan collars, bell sleeves and bold, block colour contrasts that would do Twiggy proud. We’re a bit in love, although we do have one, teeny, tiny criticism: most of the dresses come in black, white and red, so we’d like to see a bit more colour (maybe a retro pattern or floral design or two) thrown into the mix.

The mod style is obviously appreciated here in Leicester, with things at the store having picked up significantly since the name change and revamp.

Which is good to hear.

Because (and here’s where we get a bit serious) the shops that now call Silver Arcade home are brilliant – we’re big fans of Cocoa Amore, Deli Flavour and Eskimo Blue, as well as our new mod pals – could do with a bit of help, couldn’t they?

It’s been well over a year since the arcade reopened now, but a lot of the units are still empty.

So, come on Silver Arcade bosses – you’ve done a grand job of doing the place up, so how about a few more new faces to liven things up?
